Lee life science company receives tax incentive award from Healy-Driscoll Administration

“We must continue to meet the moment and send a strong signal to companies here in Massachusetts and globally that our state remains the best place in the world to launch and scale life sciences solutions,” Governor Maura Healey states in a press release announcing the awards.

Boston — On Tuesday, October 15, the Healey-Driscoll administration and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) announced $21.4 million in tax incentive awards to 19 life sciences companies.

The awards, provided through the MLSC’s Tax Incentive Program, are expected to create 1,155 new life sciences industry jobs in Massachusetts.

The only Berkshire County-based company awarded tax incentives is Berkshire Sterile Manufacturing in Lee, which has been awarded $500,000 in incentives, which will create 20 new jobs.

According to the company’s website, Berkshire Sterile Manufacturing was founded in 2014 and develops clinical and commercial sterile injectable products.

In October 2023, the company was acquired by international company Sharp Services LLC and is in the process of changing its name to Sharp Sterile.

The MLSC Tax Incentive program is offered to companies engaged in life sciences research and development, commercialization, and manufacturing in Massachusetts and provides incentives to companies of all sizes looking to expand their efforts by creating new, long-term jobs in the state.

“We must continue to meet the moment and send a strong signal to companies here in Massachusetts and globally that our state remains the best place in the world to launch and scale life sciences solutions,” Governor Maura Healey states in a press release announcing the awards. “Becoming the global hub of the life sciences doesn’t happen by accident. These awards will allow our state to accelerate innovation and job creation and transform lives around the world.”
