Pittsfield —  A Lanesborough resident was killed in a traffic accident while he was working in a construction zone on Thursday, Oct. 12.

According to a press release issued by the Pittsfield Police Department, at 7:52 a.m. both Police and Fire Departments, along with Action Ambulance, responded to the area of 777 West St. for a motor vehicle versus pedestrian accident.

Edward Ladouceur, 87, of Pittsfield was driving his 2015 Chevrolet Colorado east bound on West Street.

The eastbound lane was closed to traffic for construction and vehicles were being directed into the west bound lane by a flagger.

The Chevy Colorado operated by Ladouceur entered into the construction zone and struck Shane Cassavant, 49, of Lanesborough, who was working in the roadway. Cassavant was transported to Berkshire Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation. No charges were listed for Ladouceur in the press release.
