Kathryn (Kannar) Aberdale, 70, of Westlake, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, while under hospice care.
Kathryn is survived by her beloved wife Suzanne Marie Aberdale. The couple was devoted to one another for 30 years, and they officially wed on October 7, 2013. Kathryn was exceedingly proud of her daughter Stacy Bedard Danahy, who lives in St. Petersburg, Fla., and her three grandchildren: Michael Danahy Jr. and his wife Kirsten Hartlen of St. Petersburg; Bailey Danahy and his girlfriend Chaney Wilson of St. Petersburg; and Ashley Danahy and her boyfriend Nate Gorsuch of Scottsdale, Ariz. Kathyrn will also dearly miss Zoey, her service of 12 years. Waiting to enthusiastically greet her on the other side will be her cherished pets, Travis, Gabby, Roxxie, and Lexxie.

Born on November 23, 1953, in Troy, N.Y., Kathryn was the daughter of Alexander Kannar (1914–1987) and Helen Milkiewicz Kannar (1919–1998). Kathryn is survived by two siblings: Mary Ann Kannar Sala and husband Ronald of Cohoes, N.Y. and Helene Kannar Bedard and husband Gerard of Clifton Park, N.Y. Five nephews mourn her loss: Greg Sala and wife Kim of Clifton Park, Jeff Sala of Watervliet, David Sala of Cohoes, Michael Sala and wife Jennifer of Clifton Park, and Stephen Bedard of Clifton Park.
Kathryn’s in-laws were the late Joseph W. Aberdale (1934–2014) and Dolores Twarog (1938–2016). Kathryn’s surviving in-laws are her sister-in-law Debra Aberdale and Debra’s boyfriend Michael Chrzan of Clifton Park; her brother-in-law Joseph A. Aberdale and wife Carole of Housatonic; and her brother-in-law Andrew A. Aberdale and his wife LindaLeigh of Acton, Mass. Kathryn will be dearly missed by her nephew-in-law Andrew A. Aberdale II and his wife Melissa of Acton; her niece-in-law Kayla Aberdale together with Matthew Chamberland of Housatonic; and her nephew-in-law Joseph F. Aberdale, also of Housatonic.
Kathryn was a 1971 graduate of Watervliet High School. She graduated from Albany School of Nursing in 1972. Kathryn was formerly an LPN at Albany Medical Center, and she worked as an office manager for Dr. Linda Weber. She served as nurse auditor at numerous organizations—CDPHP, DME Company Modern Health Concepts, United Health Care, and Medical Review Services—before her retirement in 2018. Even after retirement, she chose to serve as Companion at Brookdale Senior Living, when they resided in California.
In her spare time, Kathryn enjoyed adventures, such as trips to Poland, Hawaii, and Cape Cod. Kathryn especially enjoyed being with family, riding motorcycles, spending time on the beach, playing bingo, and days at the casino.
A funeral mass will be held for Kathryn at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Corpus Christi Church, on Main Street in Housatonic on Wednesday, March 27, at 10 a.m., before her body will be laid to rest in Saint Bridget’s Cemetery on Van Deusenville Road in Housatonic. Family will receive friends on Tuesday March 26, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to The Aberdale Foundation, 5 Stacy’s Way, Acton, MA 01720, to benefit the “Kathryn Kannar Aberdale Scholarship Fund.” The Aberdale Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
