Kathleen Theresa (Mitts) Coles, 62, of Pittsfield peacefully passed on May 2, 2023, after a long illness, with her family by her side.

Kathleen Theresa (Mitts) Coles.

Kathleen was born in San Diego on December 29, 1960 to Edna Mae (Mitts) Kincaid and Joseph Mitts. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego, where she was student body president in her senior year. After high school, Kathleen attended Pepperdine University. Kathleen later studied Nuclear and Radiation Safety and worked for many years as a safety inspector at nuclear power plants throughout the southeast U.S. In 2003, Kathleen received her Radiation Technologist certification, and in 2006, she moved with her family to Pittsfield to be closer her brother Kevin and his family in the Berkshires and began an accomplished career in the department of radiology at Berkshire Medical Center. She began as an X-ray technologist, progressed to assisting in the Special Procedures Lab for several years, and until very recently continued to work as a CT scanner technologist. Kathleen worked hard, took pride in her work, and cherished her relationships with her co-workers at BMC.

Kathleen loved sharing time with her family, but her greatest love was of her sons William Alexander Coles of Quincy, Mass. and Jacob Coles of Hollywood, Calif. As a single mom, Kathleen successfully stewarded Alex and Jake through school and college. Kathleen was very proud of her boys’ achievements in athletics, in the Boy Scouts (both Alex and Jake attained the rank of Eagle Scout), and in their academic performance in high school and college. Their love and successes have given her the greatest happiness.

Kathleen also took great joy in her friends and co-workers, in being outdoors, in her roller coaster relationship with her Chargers, and in her cat, Kennedy.

Kathleen is predeceased by her brother, Sean Mitts.

A caring mother, devoted daughter, loving sister, beloved aunt, Kathleen is survived by her sons, Alex and Jacob; her mother, Edna Mae Kincaid of Pittsfield; her brothers, Patrick Mitts (Denise) of Pahrump, Nev. and Kevin Mitts (Marybeth) of Lenox; her cherished nieces and nephews, Maggie (Texas), Liz (California), Katie (Lenox), Conor (Va.), Kyle (Va.), and Corey Mitts (Utah).

A celebration of Kathleen’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kathleen’s memory to Hospice Care of the Berkshires in care of Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA.
