June Virginia Hastedt, 93, of Housatonic

At June's request, there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will be held at Lee Memorial Cemetery in Southfield in the spring.

June Virginia Hastedt of Housatonic passed away at the age of 93 on February 6, 2026. June was born in Winsted, Conn., on June 9, 1932, to Frederick and Lena Ellis Hastedt.

June grew up in the Southfield area with her 10 brothers and sisters. She graduated from a one-room schoolhouse in New Marlboro in 1950 and went on to earn her practical nursing degree in New York City in 1955. Although she was a nurse her whole life, she earned her certificate of preliminary education in Pennsylvania in 1971, and a Bachelor of Science in Bible from the Philadelphia College of Bible in 1974.

For many years, June worked with mentally disabled children at the former Woodside Home in Canaan, Conn., bringing them quality of life until her retirement in 1986. After moving back to the homestead in Housatonic, she spent the rest of her life caring for all her nieces and nephews. As they grew older, she shifted her care to her sister Margaret and brother-in-law William.

June leaves behind her niece and caregiver, Jeanne Bachetti of Sheffield, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Fred, William, Albert, Arthur, and Raymond, and her sisters, Anna Kindick, Alice Hess, Edna Finkle, Dorothy Badurski, and Margaret Gillett.

At June’s request, there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will be held at Lee Memorial Cemetery in Southfield in the spring. Those who wish to honor June may make a donation to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
