Judith Knight will bring integrity, wisdom, experience to DA’s officeMore Info
To the Editor:
Judith Knight is the definition of integrity. I can personally testify to the fact that Judy does not let personal relationships get in the way of her making the right decisions, even if those decisions are difficult.
I have known Judy for almost 20 years now, and she has always been there for me when I needed her. Her experience on both sides of the law (as a prosecuting attorney as well as a criminal defense attorney) was apparent in our relationship as I have struggled with alcoholism and addiction for most of my life and am four years clean and sober today in huge part because of Judy’s integrity and understanding of the law.
She defended me when I was the victim of an illegal search and seizure, helping me stay out of jail and getting me into treatment, but that was the easy part and only the beginning. When the day came that I relapsed and found myself unable to make safe choices, unable to care for myself or my infant daughter and unable to obey the law, Judith sat on the OTHER side of the courtroom, with my Dad, in a Section 35 hearing where I was deemed a danger to myself and others and was sent away, kicking and screaming, to a locked treatment facility.
At the time, I could not take care of myself, and Judy used the law to take care of me. She fought for me when I did not want to fight for myself and did not hold it against me when I DID want to fight with her. It was because of that time away that I was able to get back on my feet, regain my strength and determination to fight this often deadly disease of addiction and become the productive member of society that I am today. I would most likely not be alive today if not for her ability to put personal feelings and relationships aside and to use the law to do what was right for me as an individual.
Judith Knight will treat each case on an individual basis and do the right thing even when it is not easy. She did it for me and that is what I believe Judith Knight will do for our community: use the law to help those who cannot help themselves, respecting the rights of victims as well as the accused, and THAT is why she has my vote and should also have yours.
