Joseph W. Merola, 66, of Sheffield

Funeral Services for Joseph W. Merola will be held on Friday, December 16 at 11 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home at 33 South St., Great Barrington. Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph W. Merola, 66, of Sheffield died Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness. Joseph was born in Staten Island, N.Y. on June 27, 1956, son of the late John and Florence (Sack) Merola. He went on to graduate from Mount Everett Regional High School and Roger Williams College in R.I. He worked at 20 Railroad and Sheffield Pottery.

Joseph is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth O’Donnell and husband Jack of Ashley Falls; daughter, Michelle Merola of Holyoke; son, Joseph of Great Barrington; one brother, John Merola and wife Barbara of Hudson; two sisters, Iris Peppe and husband Rick of Pittsfield and Suzanne Wool and husband Joe of Great Barrington; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Annette Ferron, and brother, Jeff Merola.

Joe was all about service and helped everyone. He loved AA and was a very active member. He loved cooking, especially his famous carrot cake.

Funeral Services for Joseph W. Merola will be held on Friday, December 16 at 11 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home at 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA with Reverend Tina Rathbone officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Joseph’s memory may be made to the Peoples Pantry in Great Barrington in care of the funeral home or online. Condolences may be made through the funeral home’s website.
