Jon Carson Whittaker

Jon was a gentle, empathic soul, and those who were lucky enough to be close with him knew that he was a remarkable friend, full of brilliant insight, quick wit, and steadfast loyalty.

Jon was born on September 3, 1951 to the late William and Ruth Whittaker of Great Barrington and grew up in the center of a large and loving family. For many years, he worked in the Whittaker family business alongside his parents and siblings. Extending his love of classic cars into his work, Jon specialized in auto body painting. He loved music and enjoyed his years as lead guitarist in a local classic rock band.

He treasured his relationships with his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and especially his beloved parents. He loved connecting with nature and watching the wildlife and birds that surrounded his Berkshire home. Jon died on December 20, 2020 with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ruth Whittaker, brother Daniel Whittaker, and nephew Brian Whittaker. He leaves behind siblings William Whittaker III and wife Ellen of Lee, Lynne Whittaker of Agawam, Jane Whittaker and husband Don Torrico of North Egremont, and Timothy Whittaker of Sheffield; nieces and nephews Karen Whittaker, Michael Whittaker, Danielle Whittaker Piazza, William Whittaker, Taylor Whittaker, Amy Whittaker Warner, Ned Whittaker Torrico, Tara Stolzar, Emily Whittaker, and 11 great nieces and nephews.

Birches–Roy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A private memorial service will be held at Pelton Brook Cemetery in Great Barrington. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com

Funeral Mass for Robert F. "Bob" Keefner will be held on Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
