John J. Skorput, 95, formerly of West Stockbridge, Mass., passed away on January 1, 2017 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born November 20, 1921 in Cementon, New York, he was the son of Peter and Pauline Yaremcism Skorput.
A veteran of World War II John served in the U.S. Army 94th Signal Battalion from 1942 -1945 and received the Bronze Medal for meritorious service.
Upon his return home from the service he went into the mushroom growing business with his father and brothers. He was also employed at Rising Paper Co. and Rice Co.
Mr. Skorput was a selectman for West Stockbridge and a former Deputy Sheriff for Berkshire County.
Following his retirement in 1988, John and his wife, the late Alta Larson Skorput moved to Venice, Florida.
John is survived by his two sisters, Frances S. Toolin and Dorothy S. Hotchkiss; two step-children, Christine Ragsdale and George Jastram Jr. as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Alta on October 22, 2014 along with four brothers and two sisters.
The funeral for John J. Skorput will be held on Thursday, January 12th at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. William Murphy.
There will be no calling hours.
