John Holmes Bodnar, 72, of Monterey

John received a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Connecticut State University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of Connecticut School of Social Work.

John Holmes Bodnar, 72, of Monterey died Tuesday August 4, 2015 at home after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on June 19, 1943, son of Dr. Albert Edward and Helen (Moorey) Bodnar. John received a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Connecticut State University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of Connecticut School of Social Work. He worked as a social worker for the state of Connecticut Department of Children and Youth Services for 34 years.

John was the Election Warden for the Town of Monterey; he enjoyed boating on Lake Garfield, skiing at Butternut and trap shooting with the Lee Sportsman’s Association where he was a league member.

John is survived by his wife Estella Ortiz Bodnar of Monterey and his sister, Susan Bodnar Vandenberg.

Funeral services for John Bodnar will be held on Saturday August 8 at 10 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South St., Great Barrington, Mass., with the Rev. Liz Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in Corashire Cemetery in Monterey.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 8, preceding the service from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.

Nicholas Navarino, 90, of Waretown, N.J., formerly of Great Barrington

Navarino was a resident of Gt. Barrington for 16 years between 2004 and 2020.
