John H. Drumm Jr. 86, of Great Barrington, died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Great Barrington Health Care in Great Barrington. John was born on November 6, 1928 in Pensacola, Fla., son of John H. Sr. and Ida (Dewkett) Drumm.
John attended the Alford Primary School for eight years then attended the former Searles High School. For most of his life John worked in landscaping and lawn care.
John worked as a farm hand on The Great Pine Dairy, Alford Road, Great Barrington where his father John H. Sr. was the Dairy Farm manager. The farm and estate were owned by the Blodgett Family until the land was given to the current owners, Bard College at Simon’s Rock. John also worked many years on the Blodgett estate caring for many exotic birds and tropical fish kept on the grounds near the main house.
As a young man John participated in the 4-H Club of Alford MA, later in life he enjoyed playing cards at the Alford Town Hall. He enjoyed picture puzzles and watching game shows on TV. He also enjoyed reading as a young man, mostly Western novels. He enjoyed attending the Great Barrington Fair and Horse Show, which for years were held every September at the Fair Grounds on South Main Street. John was a quiet, sensitive, and gentle man.
John is survived by three sisters, Ruth E. Verones of Alford, Eunice F. Anson of Great Barrington and Kathleen M. Potash of Great Barrington, five nieces, seven nephews, one great nephew and 10 great nieces. John was predeceased by his brother, Arnold Drumm.
