John Fogerty, George Thorogood, Jon Batiste, Brandi Carlile, Roger Daltrey, KT Tunstall added to 2024 Tanglewood lineup

It is that time of year when winter is on the run, and Tanglewood announces new popular music bookings for the summer season.

Lenox — When Tanglewood tickets go on sale on March 19, at 10 a.m., you will notice several additions to the 2024 popular artists lineup. They are John Fogerty, George Thorogood, Roger Daltrey, KT Tunstall, Jon Batiste, Brandi Carlile, and Jason Mraz. These and previously announced pop acts are listed all together, in date order, below.

Creedence Clearwater Revival founder John Fogerty appears at Tanglewood on June 20, with blues rocker and darling of 1980s rock radio George Thorogood opening the show. A Rock and Roll and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Fogerty is performing his songs for the first time since acquiring ownership of his own song catalog. His “Celebration Tour” is so named because he can relax and enjoy these songs for the first time in decades. We should probably call his show the Fogerty Family Hour, because he brings his sons Shane and Tyler on the road with him, and their band Hearty Har plays a set in the show.

Roger Daltry, lead singer and co-founder of The Who, makes his second appearance at Tanglewood after performing all the songs from The Who’s rock opera “Tommy” with the Boston Pops in the summer of 2018. Daltrey has released 10 solo albums, and in his new show, he sings not only Who hits but also Who rarities and solo hits, performed with a new semi-acoustic band. And here is something unexpected: Daltry will make time in his set to tell stories of his life on the road, and he will even conduct a Q&A session.

Opening for Daltry, Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall makes her second appearance at Tanglewood. On her first visit to Lenox in 2019, she opened for Squeeze and won the crowd over in very short order. Tunstall’s 2004 multi-platinum debut, “Eye to the Telescope,” spawned the global hits “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See.”

When he was bandleader for Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, you may have heard Jon Batiste’s keyboard playing—but perhaps not clearly enough to know what an incredible pianist he is. He had the whole Boston Pops Orchestra playing behind him the last time he appeared at Tanglewood—for the Fourth of July show in 2021—and he was brilliant. But he is playing solo on the 28th, in his first-ever U.S. tour, so we will really get to hear his most formidable keyboard chops.

After making her Tanglewood debut in 2022, eleven-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile returns to Tanglewood on Sunday, June 30, at 6 p.m. Carlile has released seven studio albums since her self-titled breakout in 2005 and has won two Children’s and Family Emmy awards. Her music spans musical genres from country to folk to rock.

Two-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and Songwriters Hall of Fame Honoree Jason Mraz will make his Tanglewood debut with the Boston Pops on July 2, at 7 p.m., conducted by Sean O’Loughlin, principal Pops conductor of the Victoria Symphony and of Symphoria in Syracuse, N.Y. Mraz released his eighth studio album, “Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride,” in 2023, but he is probably best known for the single “I’m Yours,” which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, spent 76 weeks on the Hot 100, and was ultimately certified Diamond by the RIAA.

More popular artist dates will be announced in the coming weeks, but here are all of Tanglewood’s summer pop acts as the calendar presently stands:

  • June 20 — John Fogerty and George Thorogood with Special Guest Hearty Har
  • June 22 — Roger Daltrey with Very Special Guest KT Tunstall
  • June 23 — Kool & the Gang and En Vogue
  • June 28 — Jon Batiste
  • June 30 — Brandi Carlile
  • July 2 — Jason Mraz with the Boston Pops
  • July 3–4 — James Taylor (sold out)
  • July 16 — An Evening with the Pretenders
  • August 30 — Judy Collins, Rufus Wainwright, and the Indigo Girls
  • August 31 — DISPATCH with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops

The Tanglewood box office will be open for in-person ticket sales on March 19, 20, and 21, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Popular artist tickets are available for mobile delivery or will-call pickup only. Also, individual artists may impose limits on the number of tickets sold per person. (If this helps to thwart ticket scalpers, I hope you won’t complain about any inconvenience you may experience, because it is worth it.) Mobile tickets will appear on your device five days prior to the concert. You can pick up your will-call tickets at the Tanglewood box office starting five days prior to the concert. MAHLER FESTIVAL: First day, First Symphony

I came to Amsterdam to listen to all of Gustav Mahler’s 10 symphonies by some of the world’s greatest orchestras, one each day, consecutively, and his ‘Song of the Earth’, but especially the four movements that comprise his First Symphony.

CONCERT REVIEW: An airy spirit comes to Earth, with flutes, at Tanglewood

While audiences come to concerts expecting to hear a selected menu of scores played as written by (frequently) absent composers, here we were confronted with a totally integrated experience of instrumental and vocal sound, many spontaneously created, as well as lights, body movement, and theater.

THEATER REVIEW: ‘Ragtime’ plays at Goodspeed Musicals through June 15

This is one piece of theater no one should ever miss, and this production is about as good as it will ever get.
