John E. Henry, 92, of Egremont

John E. Henry, 92, of Egremont, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., on May 2, 1933, son of Joseph and Martha (Arnheiter) Henry.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Africa and then aboard the U.S.S. Constitution. For many years, John owned and operated his own trucking company, Mass Transportation Inc.

John is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Cynthia Casoff Henry. He is survived by his children, Mary (Tom) Henry Ogle, Teresa (Wayne) Spencer, John P (Maureen) Henry, Christine Eagles, Michael Henry, Martha (David) Scripter, Matthew (April) Henry, and Melissa Henry. He leaves 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Eileen Teirney, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Margaret A. Laughlin Henry, and his siblings, Anna Ballio, Marie Stafford, James Henry, Dorothy Huffnagel, Joseph Henry, Margaret Pater, and Robert Henry.

John and his wife Cynthia have been longtime residents of the Berkshires. John, a beloved bus driver for the Massini Bus Company, transported area children to school for six years, from 2017 to 2024. John will be remembered for having a warm demeanor and a quiet strength that garnered him many friends throughout the community. He loved wood working, making beautiful tables for his home and for others. Through the years, he adored his many canine companions who stayed by his side on long hikes. He enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends, traveling throughout the United States and parts of the world.

In keeping with John’s wishes, all services are private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in John’s memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society online or in care of the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Condolences may be made through the funeral home’s website.
