Joan Elizabeth Hotaling, 83, of New Marlborough, died Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Albany Medical Center. Joan was born in Pittsfield on January 1, 1941, the daughter to Pearl Christman.

Joan grew up with her grandparents Henry and Maude Christman in North Egremont. She was a graduate of Mount Everett Regional High School, class of 1959. Joan worked for Andrews Insurance Agency, nine years at Southern Berkshire Janitorial, nine years at camp Half Moon, and 24 years at Smith Watson Accountants, retiring in 2005.
Joan was a member of the Women’s Bowling Wildcat League, Red Hat Society, Studebaker Car Club, Friends of Sheffield Senior Center, and the Council on Aging in New Marlborough. She enjoyed agility and dog training, cooking, and traveling with their mobile home, and spending time with her family and grandchildren meant everything to her.
Joan is survived by her husband John E. Hotaling of New Marlborough, whom she married on June 1, 1962; her son John Edward Hotaling and wife Caitlin of Great Barrington; her daughter June Bartlett and husband Jeffrey of Topsham, Maine; and her four grandchildren, Deak Hotaling, Isabel Bartlett, Gabryel Bartlett, and Wyatt Bartlett.
Funeral Services for Joan Elizabeth Hotaling will be held on Wednesday, May 29, at 11 a.m., at the Old Parish Church in Sheffield, with Reverend Jill Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Carroll Cemetery in New Marlborough. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Joan’s memory may be made to either the Sheffield Senior Center or the Old Parish Church in care of the funeral home.
