Joan B. Peterson, 83, of South Egremont

Joan enjoyed photography, nature, the Berkshire Hills, the shores of Maine and the Georgia Mountains. She lived for her children, grandchildren and great grandchild giving of her time and energy and love unconditionally.

Joan B. Peterson, a lifelong resident of South Egremont passed away peacefully on December 14, 2014, at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox.

She was born May 29, 1931 in Norwalk, Conn., and a graduate with honors from Norwalk High School. Joan and her former husband, Charles W. Peterson Jr., built a home on Berkshire Greens in South Egremont in 1970 and had an electrical and heating business formerly known as Country Services.

Joan was the daughter of Harry Brown and Elizabeth Bramhall Brown Cable both of Norwalk. After a stroke in 2011 Joan resided in Pittsfield with her daughter Rebecca and family.

Joan enjoyed photography, nature, the Berkshire Hills, the shores of Maine and the Georgia Mountains. She lived for her children, grandchildren and great grandchild giving of her time and energy and love unconditionally. A former employee of the Jennifer House in Great Barrington and the Mikasa Outlet in Lee, Mass., she enjoyed her customers and loved retail.

Joan leaves her children Kevin C. Peterson and his wife Jean Marie of Woodstock, Ga.; her daughter Rebecca E. Peterson of Pittsfield; and son Erik J. Peterson of Great Barrington, Gary Gop of Lenox and Edward McDaniel of Pittsfield. Joan also leaves her grandchildren, Amanda and Jason Cross, Rebecca and Blane Newton, Emily Gop and Zachary Crochiere, Matthew Peterson and her only great-grandchild, Reilly.

Joan was predeceased by her parents and her beloved grandfather John Bramhall and her former husband, Charles W. Peterson Jr., who passed in 2008.

A memorial service will be held January 10, 2015 at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, Great Barrington, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with services at 4 p.m., the Reverend Charles Vanausdall officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the spring in Hillside Cemetery, Egremont. Expressions of sympathy in Joan’s memory made to the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St, Great Barrington, MA. 01230, to help with final expenses. She will be forever and dearly missed. A celebration of Jan’s life will take place Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 3 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting of South Berkshire. All are welcome to join in celebrating Jan’s life, followed by a reception.

The family of Anthony E. Menard will receive friends on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Charles VanAusdall.

John H. Pirzl, 67, of Dalton

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 10 a.m., at St. Ann Church with Monsignor John Bonzagni officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Pittsfield.
