Jared Tagge, 31, of Shenzhen, China, formerly of Lenox

After college, he moved to Shenzhen where he taught chemistry and biology in a Chinese high school.

Jared Allen Tagge, 31, formerly of Lenox, passed away Dec. 24, 2017, in Hong Kong. He had been living in Shenzhen, China, for the past five years.

Born July 21, 1986, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he was the son of James and Risë Babin Tagge of Stockbridge. In 1991, the family moved to the Berkshires. Jared was homeschooled and went on to the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After college, he moved to Shenzhen where he taught chemistry and biology in a Chinese high school. He also established his own English school, “PHOENIX ENGLISH.” Jared met his future wife, Wen Ying Yi (Sophia) in Shenzhen and they married Dec. 13, 2013.

Along with his wife and his parents, Jared is survived by his sisters, Laura and Mary Tagge, and his brother, Joshua Tagge.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Stockbridge, conducted by Father Michael Flannery. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions in Jared’s memory may be made to the Jared A. Johanna’s hobbies—entertaining; playing golf, bridge, and canasta; and attending concerts at Tanglewood—made for a very happy life.
