News and Ideas Worth Sharing

Inspired by Leonard Quart’s story of ‘Coping with these times’

As I am buffeted by the firehouse of news of the wounds against humanity and our planet, I still try to find healing stories of truth, beauty, goodness, and justice.

To the editor:

Leonard Quart’s article titled “Coping with these times” prompts my pondering about how I also am coping.

As I am buffeted by the firehouse of news of the wounds against humanity and our planet, I still try to find healing stories of truth, beauty, goodness, and justice. My friend Jeff Zimmerman and I launched BrightInitiatives.org as a way to collect and shine light on these refreshing stories.

I also calm the noise in my mind by expanding and deepening my prayerful playing of my collection of ancient-style flutes. Amidst the turmoil, I feel also there is a loving God who can inspire our co-creative actions.

Relationships with family (four children and nine grandchildren spread across six countries) and community also give both me and my wife Lis joy and energy to embrace each day. We are especially thankful for our participation in the Monterey-based Parkinson’s support community with its nearly 100 members from the southern Berkshires.

I appreciated Leonard’s story of coping and wonder how others are coping as well.

Although Lou’s Section 9 chair will be occupied by others in coming seasons, for us who loved him, we will always remember it as the seat of the “Mayor of Tanglewood.”
