Independent Living Education Day at the Massachusetts State House

This is an opportune moment for us to stand up for our democratic rights.

To the editor:

Today was a day of immense historical significance for me. I had the privilege of attending Independent Living Education Day at the Massachusetts State House, where I was joined by esteemed guests including State Rep. Leigh Davis and Sara Hadsell and Sally English from AdLib in Pittsfield. The speakers delivered compelling presentations, highlighting the potential consequences of proposed cuts to MassHealth and their adverse impact on the disabled community as a whole.

Since the age of eight, I have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). IBS was followed by approximately 15 years of colitis, and Crohn’s at 23. At the age of 26, I am currently facing a diagnosis of endometriosis and, potentially, even colon cancer. The loss of access to my infusions and biologics would have a profound impact on my well-being. I am currently receiving treatment with Entivyo and Zeposia. The impending changes we face are deeply concerning, and it is imperative that we collectively advocate for the preservation of our rights.

As individuals living with disabilities, we require a sense of security and protection. Ed Markey has cautioned us about the potential reduction in funding for food banks and pantries. This is an opportune moment for us to stand up for our democratic rights.

Despite my high-functioning autism and a multitude of disabilities, I will not deter myself from my mission of becoming a doctor to leverage the medicine field through the integration of technology. We must be innovative and creative in addressing the challenges we face in the current world. Please scream it out this April 5: Don’t roll back our rights! Hands off everything!

Please do not bring national anti-Democrat divisiveness to Stockbridge

Just because local Stockbridge Democratic Committee members may have some issues that are not shared by the incumbent Select Board member does not mean that we are radical left-wing Democrats.

It is clear what kind of country the Trump administration wants the U.S. to be

I guess it is time to change the inscription on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your shady, your rich, your pampered oligarchs yearning to avoid prosecution…”

Has the Stockbridge Democratic Committee lost its way?

The party needs to get away from its tendency to promote disparate, progressive agendas and instead focus on programs and projects that serve the needs and desires of the greater majority of the population that identifies with “Democratic ideals.”
