News and Ideas Worth Sharing

In response to huff at North Adams Housing Authority

I have known many of the staff members at NAHA for quite some time. If you know who I am, you know that I have worked in the past with these folks as well as other community members within Berkshire County. I know these folks to be integral, loving, kind, and caring. They honestly care about their tenants.

To the editor:

I have become surprised that there is some dissent amongst tenants relative to practice that transpires at the North Adams Housing Authority (NAHA). Please be advised that I am not in concurrence as to claim that the staff at North Adams Housing do not care about what transpires within their buildings. In fact, quite the opposite. I have known many of the staff members at NAHA for quite some time. If you know who I am, you know that I have worked in the past with these folks as well as other community members within Berkshire County. I know these folks to be integral, loving, kind, and caring. They honestly care about their tenants.

When COVID first came out, NAHA gave their tenants products to help their families. In addition to giving out boxes, they offered rental assistance to their tenants who may have been affected by the pandemic. They all work very hard and very arduously to ensure that all tenant needs are met and handled. I remember long ago when I went around and around with a former executive who failed to tend to tenants as a tenant of NAHA. Jennifer Hohn is not that kind of Executive. Jenn really cares about her tenants and works very hard to ensure that things are safe, lawns are mowed, reparations are tended to,  and that people are suitably housed and truly alright. Who else drives round every morning to ensure that things are OK? She does. I don’t know if people know about that, but she does. They all care the guys, the gals, so what is going on here?

Someone told me that the elevators can be problematic; that’s easy enough to fix. What else is wrong I don’t know. I have not really read the paper or hopped onto Facebook. I value my peace and tranquility. I watch the news every once and awhile, but I’d rather step outside and check out the new flowers and budding trees. Anyone can fight and storm. What about thinking on how to work with someone amicably to help out, ya know? Geez, we are are all tired and stressed. Honestly COVID was a bitch, and now we are wrestling with a whacky economy, trying to put food on our tables, ensuring our kids have clothes, making we can afford tires on our cars, and making sure mortgages are paid. It’s not easy right now for anyone. Nobody is having an easy time of this. Things are stuck in transit because of shipping. Yeah it’s getting better. Maybe everybody is just frustrated. It’s possible. All of us have our own private battles. Each and every single one of us has something we deal with. So instead of throwing stones at people, why not lend a helping hand? All of us have been touched by COVID in some way shape or form. Stop fighting, relax, take time out to smell the roses, please. Life is quite short. Life isn’t all about fighting. Life is about far greater things than an elevator, people. Come on.

Why I’m participating in the No Kings national mobilization

We can stop Trump. To do so we need to keep reminding him and his MAGA loyalists that we live in a constitutional democracy, not a monarchy.

Donald Trump’s failed presidency

Trump was elected because people relied on the promises he made, but curbing inflation; lowering the high costs of food, gas, and electricity; improving access to healthcare; and restoring affordability have basically been ignored.

Why should second-home owners in Great Barrington subsidize well-off full-time residents?

Even if they won't be receiving a reduction, primary residents of means would still benefit from a system that levies higher taxes on second-home owners but not on them.
