I am grateful for Leigh Davis’ leadership

I want my town leaders working with leaders in the town of Lee on a better solution for transporting PCB-laden sludge out of the Housatonic, and I am very grateful to Leigh Davis for stepping up and taking an active role in this process.

To the editor:

In response to Mr. Gardner’s June 30 Letter to the Editor criticizing Selectboard Vice Chair Leigh Davis’ request to publicly release executive session meeting minutes from the Housatonic Rest of River Municipal Committee:

To those who sigh with relief that the PCB dump is not in their backyard and question the wisdom of Great Barrington leaders’ involvement in the issue at this point, I must say that I continue to be very concerned. Under the current plan, PCB dredging will be taking place at Rising Pond in my village of Housatonic, and hundreds of truckloads of PCB-laden sludge will be trucked along our local roads and highways. This is not just a problem for the people of Lee. It affects all of us who live along the Housatonic and the proposed truck route. I want my town leaders working with leaders in the town of Lee on a better solution, and I am very grateful to Leigh Davis for stepping up and taking an active role in this process. I also want to be informed, as much as possible, so I appreciate Ms. Davis’ efforts to have executive session minutes released so that, as she states, “we can ensure that our community members are fully aware of the deliberations that affect them and can participate more meaningfully in the governance process.” For me, this is exactly what good leadership and good governance look like. Ms. Davis’ ability to work collaboratively with other leaders to help us here at home not only makes her a great local leader but also one who will serve us well as the next state representative for the 3rd Berkshire District. She will have my vote in the Democratic primary on September 3.

Berkshire Hills Regional School District’s shortcomings

The upcoming push to fund a new high school is focused on building something bigger and better while ignoring the fact that times have changed and that the goals must change as well.

Ms. Hritzuk’s recent Letter to the Editor regarding Stockbridge Town Meeting contains several inaccuracies

Ms. Hritzuk writes, "the meeting seemed designed to derail the citizen's position." I am aware of no reasonable basis for such an accusation.

Feeling disillusioned after attending my first Stockbridge Town Meeting

While I expected debate on Article 17 to be heated, I assumed that transparent and consistently applied rules would govern the meeting. What I observed instead was a concerted effort to put the citizens who submitted the petition at the grossest possible disadvantage.
