Hazel Brewer, 98, passed away Dec. 29, 2017, at Geer Health Care in Canaan, Connecticut.

Born Nov. 15, 1919, in North Egremont, she was the daughter of Henry and Hattie Murphy Brewer. She attended local schools and was a 1937 graduate of Searles High School. She later attended Van Der Hayden Hall in Troy, New York.

For many years Hazel was a sales clerk at the former W.T. Grant store in Great Barrington. She then worked at B-D Medical Products in Canaan as a production worker. She also did child care for many area families. She was a faithful member of the North Egremont Baptist Church and its ladies’ auxiliary.

Hazel is survived by her nieces Ruth Avenia, Susan Stone and Laura Olsen; and her nephews Robert DeRevere and Dennis O’Brien. She also leaves many other grandnieces and -nephews. Her grandnephew Kevin Wheeler and wife Dian were Hazel’s caretakers for many years. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Helen Babcock, Emma Proper, Freda DeRevere and Isabelle O’Brien; and her brothers John and Harold Brewer.

Hazel’s arrangements are private and being made by FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA. She will be interred at Riverside Cemetery in North Egremont in the spring. To send remembrances to the family, go to www.finnertyandstevens.com.
