We thank our friend William Perry, author of our “Anyone for Tennyson” columns, for sharing with us this haunting rendition of “Auld Lang Syne,” which we now share with you.
Of Auld Lang Syne, Perry writes:
“As the New Year arrives, this column would like to offer you our favorite rendition of the beloved poem of Robert Burns, “Auld Lang Syne.” Written in 1788, the title literally means Old Long Since or Since Long Ago. It values old friends and the memories associated with them.
‘Auld Lang Syne is often sung with pub-style enthusiasm and the clinking of glasses which is fine, but for me the poem has a quietly touching beauty wrapped in a folk melody that has lingered through the years. Please take a cup of kindness and enjoy this performance by the Choral Scholars of University College, Dublin.”
