Great Barrington Town Manager Pruhenski announces his departure

Pruhenski has served over five years as Great Barrington's town manager.

Great Barrington — Through a press release sent to local media on Wednesday, Oct. 9, Town Manager Mark Pruhenski announced that he will be leaving his position in January.

Pruhenski originally was hired by Great Barrington in 2005 as its Health Agent.

He was hired as Town Manager in March 2019.

“It’s with mixed-emotions that I announce my departure from Great Barrington” Pruhenski is quoted in the press release. “It’s been an honor to serve my hometown for the last 5-plus years as the town manager, but it’s time for a new chapter in my life, and a new challenge in my career.”

Pruhenski did not state where he would be working next.

In the press release, Selectboard Chair Steve Bannon is quoted as complimenting Pruhenski for his work over the last five years.

“[Pruhenski’s] care and compassion for the people of Great Barrington were evident from day one,” Bannon said. “He always had the best interests of the townspeople in mind whenever making a decision or recommendation. While we are saddened to see him go, we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”

The press release added that the board would discuss the recruitment process for a new town manager at its next meeting.
