Great Barrington resident arrested after fleeing two-car crash

Great Barrington —  Resident Jairo Ajcac-Petzey, 36, has been arrested in connection with a two-car crash that took place on Saturday, March 2.

According to a press release issued by Police Department Sgt. Timothy Ullrich, the crash took place on Main Street in the area of Brookside Road.

When the officers arrived on the scene, they learned that the operator of one of the vehicles fled the scene on foot.

The occupants of the other vehicles, which included an infant, were found to have had minor injuries from the accident.

The driver who fled the scene was identified as Ajcac-Petzey who lives on Pope Street.

He was located and arrested a short time later by police officers.

Ajcac-Petzey was charged with: Operating under the influence of alcohol, third offense; operating after suspension from operating under the influence while under the influence; leaving the scene of a personal injury accident; a marked lanes violation; and operating to endanger, negligent.

Ajcac-Petzey posted $1,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Southern Berkshire District Court on Thursday, March 7.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Ullrich reported that the occupants of the other vehicle were treated on scene by Southern Berkshire Ambulance and the Great Barrington Fire Department. Great Barrington Police were assisted on scene by the Great Barrington Fire Department and the Egremont and Sheffield Police Departments.

The crash is being investigated by Great Barrington Police Officers Brandon Hammer and Sam Riva. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Great Barrington Police Department at 413-528-0306.
