Great Barrington/Press Release — The Town of Great Barrington advises residents that the region has entered a Level 2 Drought Condition, following more than two months of below-normal rainfall.
This designation means that stream flows and groundwater levels are very low, fire danger is steadily increasing, and some local water supplies are showing signs of strain.
We are asking everyone to be mindful of how we are using water right now. Simple steps like repairing household leaks, cutting back on lawn watering and watering before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m. will help conserve water.
Residents are urged to:
- Reduce nonessential outdoor water use such as lawn sprinklers and car washing.
- Fix leaks in faucets, hoses, and irrigation systems.
- Be vigilant about fire safety, especially when using outdoor equipment or discarding smoking materials, as dry conditions increase fire risk.
The town will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
