Carlotto started with the department in 2006.

Great Barrington — Adam Carlotto, a 19 year veteran of the town’s Police Department, will be promoted to Interim Chief on Monday, January 5.

Town Manager Liz Hartsgrove made the announcement of the promotion via a press release on Saturday, January 3.

Carlotto will succeed current Chief Paul Storti, whose last day with the department will be Sunday, January 4.

Back in June, Storti announced he would be retiring in January.

According to a previous press release issued by the town, Storti joined the Police Department in 1995 as a full-time officer, having previously worked part-time in Sheffield.

He served as the department’s acting chief in late December 2020, following the retirement of Chief William Walsh, who had served the department for 40 years, including 37 years as police chief.

Storti was officially hired as the town’s police chief in January 2021.

In December 2024, Carlotto was promoted to captain after serving the department in various capacities, including as patrol officer, sergeant, and deputy commander of the Berkshire County Special Response Team.

Carlotto’s appointment will be for one year according to Hartsgrove.

“Adam has earned the trust of both the department and the community, and I’m grateful he is stepping into this role during a time of transition,” Hartsgrove is quoted in the press release. “I also want to sincerely thank Chief Paul Storti for his years of dedicated service to Great Barrington, and for the leadership, professionalism, and care he has shown our community throughout his tenure. Adam’s appointment reflects the strong foundation Paul leaves behind and ensures that continuity, stability, and community partnership remain at the forefront as we move forward.”
