GoFundMe started for family of child who died at Benedict Pond

The campaign will assist with the family's burial expenses.

Pittsfield and Great Barrington — A GoFundMe campaign has been started for the family of EarlGiver Essien.

On July 17, the 13-year-old was found unresponsive at Benedict Pond and, while lifesaving efforts including CPR were performed by several bystanders and doctors at Fairview Hospital, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Several media reports state that EarlGiver Essien was an eighth grade student at Herberg Middle School in Pittsfield.

The State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office is overseeing the investigation.
