To the editor:
Goats love holiday greens. Rather than trashing your live trees, wreaths, and more, give them to the goats. It would be an earth-friendly end to the season.
This month, the Lee Greener Gateway Committee publicized easy ways to have “greener” holidays, to show your family and friends that you care about the earth. Giving goats your holiday greens is one example.
Berkshire County has several goat farms. Contact a local farm to see if you can bring your greens there. Lee has David Carrington’s Monte Vista Farm on 190 East Street. Residents can drop off their greens, but no tinsel, wire, or sprayed items. David and his goats will be most grateful.
If you can’t bring your greens to David’s farm, the Lee Lions Club will take them on Saturday, January 7, from 9 a.m. to noon for a suggested $5 donation to the club. To schedule a pick up, contact the Lions Club at 413-281-9495 or Leelions1965@gmail.com.
Please have your greens outside in plain view. If you can’t leave your donation with the greens, please mail it to Lee Lions PO Box 19, Lee, MA 01238.
We thank you … and so do the goats!
The writer is Lee Greener Gateway Committee Chair.
