Giving thanks to you

Gratitude never goes out of style.

Hello, Berkshire Edge readers: This week I am giving thanks to you.

My appreciation for you is more than a timely Thanksgiving Day missive. As I have been binging through the DOC NYC schedule the last two weeks, I am mindful about what films will most resonate with you.

Naturally, I think their categories “Kaleidoscope” and “Metropolis” hold special appeal. DOC NYC describes the former as showcasing “essayistic and formally adventurous documentaries” and the latter as “dedicated to stories about New Yorkers and New York City.”

In any case, I am grateful for your readership, which motivates me to share my perspective about other people’s perspectives using film. When I started writing this column two years ago, the pandemic was still active and we all thought The Triplex would be sold to Cinema Lab.

Thankfully, the pandemic ended and Save the Triplex was born. Not only this, The Triplex remains a vital part of the community.

As well, I truly enjoy reading Ben Elliott’s column “At the Triplex” every other week, just as I love Leonard Quart’s film reviews.

But don’t get me wrong: My concerns about independent cinema persist, even as “Wicked” crushed the weekend box office. Still, I believe the nonprofit theaters I frequent are all leading the way to a better community moviegoing experience. What’s more is that I foresee myself escaping to such cocoons even more than I do now over the next four years.

In closing, I am giving thanks to you for reading every week. As “Woman on the Verge” begins its third year, I can attest that gratitude never goes out of style. And to everyone who makes The Berkshire Edge happen, you all have my deepest admiration and respect.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and stay tuned!
