George William Fleck, 94, of New Marlborough, died Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. He was born in Bronx, N.Y., on March 6, 1930, the son of George and Catherine Fleck.
George graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson with a bachelor’s degree, and he received a master’s degree in film from NYU with a doctorate degree in education from Fairleigh Dickinson. George was drafted into the Army Security Agency, spending a year in Korea. He hosted a cable show in New York, did corporate film and a film for the FASA, and developed a new film program for Borough of Manhattan Community College, where he taught and became the department chair.

George also enjoyed singing and had a voice like Sinatra’s. George also hosted a radio show in Great Barrington featuring the “great American Songbook.”
George is survived by his wife Sharon (Besemer) Fleck, whom he married in 1985 and moved to a log cabin they built in New Marlborough in 2011; his two children, Alison of New Jersey and Tracey of Plano, Texas; his two step-children, Karen and Ryan of New Jersey; and his four grandchildren, Shane and Conor of Texas and Larissa and Nicholas of New York and New Jersey. George and Sharon had four golden retrievers, Tucker, Zach, Jack, and currently Henry Otis.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. Remembrances will be shared at 1:30 p.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
