George H. Mielke Jr., 68, of Sheffield

Donations in memory of George may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home.

George H. Mielke Jr. of Sheffield passed away May 11, 2024 at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.

George had a liking for antique cars, hot rods, car shows, swap meets, playing pool, and collecting treasures from the family salvage yard.

Besides working at the family business alongside his dad and brothers, George was an owner/operator, driving his big rig up and down the Eastern Seaboard for several trucking companies.

In George’s younger years, he loved going to Jone’s Antiques on Sundays with his dad looking and sometimes purchasing treasures. George was an avid pool player and was a member of the local pool leagues.

In 2003, when his health started to decline, you could find George hanging out on his motorized wheelchair, either at the shop or at the end of his road. In the nicer weather, he liked to hang out and watch vehicles driving by, hoping to catch sight of a few antique cars and/or hot rods.

George leaves behind his two brothers, Ted (Carol) and Don (Heidi), as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Mary (Dutcher) Mielke, who passed away April 30, 1994, and his father George H. Mielke, who passed September 13, 2001.

Donations in memory of George may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. To send remembrances to his family, please visit the funeral home’s website.
