George C. Jordan III, 83, of Lenox, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility. He was born on September 7, 1940, in Winchester, Mass., to the late George and Dorothy Patterson Jordan. He attended Cushing Academy and later Parson’s College in Fairfield, Iowa, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in journalism.

George worked as a newspaper reporter for the Springfield Union until his retirement. He was the founder of the Berkshire Beacon Newspaper in 2009.
George enjoyed Williams College football, vacationing in Nantucket and Freeport, Maine, and visiting friends in Florida. He was a member of the Elks Club of Iowa.
Mr. Jordan married Christine Walger in Cornwall, Conn., on September 25, 1976.
George is survived by his wife Christine Jordan of Lenox, and his beloved Collie dogs, Levi and Galen.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 4 p.m., at the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240. Calling hours will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be private in Grove Cemetery in Freeport, Maine, at a later date.
