GB property taxes, abatement applications due February 1

Payments can be made online on the Town Hall website, or by check or cash. Cash payments must be made in person at Town Hall.

GREAT BARRINGTON — Property tax payments for the third quarter of FY22 are due Tuesday, Feb. 1. Residents may also pay their fourth-quarter taxes, due Sunday, May 1, at the same time. Residents who wish to file a tax abatement, also due by Tuesday Feb. 1 at 4 p.m., can find the abatement application on the assessor’s page of the town website.

Tax bills are mailed twice during the fiscal year, in July and December/January, and should have been received in late December or early January. This year’s property tax rate is $14.86 per $1,000 of property valuation, down from $15.99 last year. The average tax bill rose $230 this year, over FY21.

The July bills reflected estimated taxes, since the town’s tax-setting process was not complete until later in 2021. The current bills reflect final property values for FY22.

Anyone with concerns or questions regarding their property assessment may contact the assessor’s office at 413-528-1619, Ext. 2302. Payments can be made online on the Town Hall website, or by check or cash. Cash payments must be made in person at Town Hall.
