Gary S. Driscoll, 70, formerly of Sheffield

Gary leaves loving family in Sheffield and loving friends and neighbors in Jacksonville. Fraser Funeral Home in Florida is handling arrangements in Florida. Funeral Service with Military Honors will be July 5, 2023. The burial will be in National Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Gary S. Driscoll, 70, born October 10, 1952 in Great Barrington, passed peacefully at home on June 2, 2023 in Jacksonville, Fla. He was the son of Henry and Margaret Driscoll, who passed in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

He leaves a brother, Peter (Sukhui) Driscoll of Sheffield; two nephews, Michael Driscoll and Robert Driscoll of Virginia; a sister, Linda Driscoll of St. Cloud, Fla.; and a nephew, James Driscoll Jr. of Housatonic. He was predeceased by his brother, James “Jim” Driscoll (and wife Livia Driscoll) of Housatonic, who passed in 2022; a sister, Joann Driscoll of Sheffield; and a brother, David Driscoll of Sheffield.

Gary was a graduate of Mt. Everett Regional High School, a member of the band, baseball team, choir, wrestling team, and cross country team. He was an altar boy at Our Lady of the Valley in Sheffield. He enjoyed going to amusement parks and was a master chess player. He worked several jobs while attending high school. He worked for United Parcel Service and Pittsfield Country Club. His love and passion was being a runner. He ran 150 marathon runs in 45 states in 45 cities, two Boston Marathons, and two N.Y.C. Marathons, 32 15k (9.3 miles) river runs, and 10 river runs under one hour. He ran the Jacksonville Beach Run, placed 8th in 29 minutes 47 seconds. He always completed the runs within one to three hours.

He enlisted in the Marines and was based at Camp Lejune in North Carolina. He was a sharpshooter and machine gunner. He was aboard the ship USS Shreveport (LPD-12) with 600 Marines and 400 Navy personnel. He graduated from Parris Island in South Carolina, being a Lance CPL with an honorable discharge on May 4, 1978.

In Jacksonville, he had his own landscaping business and was a sales associate at Winn Dixie.
