Berkshire County — According to the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) website, as of Saturday, November 8, all SNAP households who missed payments last week should now have full SNAP benefits immediately available on their EBT cards.
This is despite the Supreme Court’s decision to grant the Trump Administration an emergency appeal to temporarily block a court order issued by Rhode Island-based US District Judge John McConnell.
The court order would have forced the Trump Administration to fully fund the SNAP program.
On Friday, November 7, Governor Maura Healey announced that her administration would direct full SNAP benefits to be paid.
“President Trump should never have put the American people in this position. Families shouldn’t have had to go hungry because their President chose to put politics over their lives,” Governor Healey is quoted in the press release. “We are now getting these benefits out to families who desperately need them. I am grateful to the people across Massachusetts who continue to step up and help their neighbors in this time of need. I also want to thank Attorney General Campbell for going to court to oppose this unprecedented, illegal decision. And I want to thank our team at the Department of Transitional Assistance for working through these challenging circumstances and maintaining their focus on serving the people of Massachusetts.”
Meanwhile, the official SNAP program website continues to display the following message:
“Senate Democrats have voted 14 times against reopening the government. This compromises not only SNAP, but farm programs, food inspection, animal and plant disease protection, rural development, and protecting federal lands. Senate Democrats are withholding services to the American people in exchange for healthcare for illegals, gender mutilation, and other unknown “leverage” points.”
