Sheffield— I used to be an art teacher at the wonderful neighborhood Housatonic School that is still waiting for someone to occupy its hallowed halls after the school system closed the neighborhood schools and built the Muddybrook School. I still remember the great times that were had at “Housey,” especially the food we shared. One of the teachers made the following salad. It sounds odd, but it is delicious. It is a nice cool summer salad and a great summer side dish.

Housatonic School Salad
1 head broccoli, chopped up
1 cup of green grapes, cut in half
1 cup of red grapes, cut in half
1 handful slivered almonds
4 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 handful chopped scallions
Dressing:
1 cup mayonnaise
1 Tablespoon vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
Whisk up dressing and toss with the salad ingredients.Â
Tip:
Can be made the night before.
