Flying Church Coffee House to reopen

At the August 7 Great Barrington Selectboard meeting, an application for a common victualler license was submitted to reopen the Flying Church Coffee House.

Clarification: while the victualler license application submitted to the town lists the business as “Blades, Blades, and Blades”, Carla Blades wrote to the Berkshire Edge to state that the name of the business will be “Carly’s Angels.” The application also lists that the store will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. However, Blades wrote that the store will instead be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week. A copy of the victualler license application, as submitted to the town, is reprinted below this article.

Great Barrington — The Selectboard approved a common victualler license for “Carly’s Angels” during its meeting on Monday, August 7. The cafe will be located at 200 Main Street, the former location of The Flying Church Coffee House.

According to its website, The Flying Church Coffee House was opened in 2019 by Paul Joffe, who closed the shop in early July. “The flying church coffee shop is closing for the summer,” Joffe wrote in a Facebook post on July 16. “Not sure what’s next. I’m going to kind of retire and be moving next year, as many of my friends know already. Hope you enjoyed the coffee and the breakfast sandwiches and fruit smoothies. My thanks to a great group of customers who were 99.99 percent charming, witty, and polite. A very nice bunch who reflect well on Great Barrington.”

At the August 7 meeting, the application for the common victualler license was submitted by Carla Blades, who represented Blades, Blades, and Blades LLC. According to the application, the store will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week and will be offering coffee, smoothies, baked goods, and light fare. “We’re going to probably serve more than just coffee,” Blades said. “Maybe simple things including baked goods, breakfast, and lunch. We’re just starting in this location, and we’ll see where it goes.”

At the meeting, Blades did not say when the store would reopen, but, as of August 7, the front door to the Flying Church Coffee House had a sign which said “reopening very soon.”
