Festival Latino viene al Mahaiwe: Comediante Alfredo Campo y Mariachi ‘Emperadores De Puebla’

The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center presents a free Festival Latino event on Saturday, September 30, featuring humor from comedian Alfredo Campo, as well as music and dance. The show starts at 7 p.m., and the Mahaiwe requests that you reserve your seat online or by telephone.

The mariachi band Emperadores de Puebla will open the show, with audience singing and dancing strongly encouraged (because the Mahaiwe folks really know how to party.) Chicago-based actor and comedian Alfredo Campo will follow the band with his stand-up comedy show, “I Just Arrived,” which he will deliver in Spanish, Spanglish, and English.

Mariachi music, which dates back to at least the 18th century, is more common in New England than you might think. Emperadores de Puebla is based in Waterbury, Conn., but they travel all over New England performing at a variety of events. (Something to watch for: Traditionally, all players in a mariachi band sing background vocals and take turns singing the lead vocal.)
