To the editor:
A recent article in the Berkshire Eagle highlighted the change in how Fairview Hospital donations are being diverted to BHS. It also reminded us of the uproar over Fairview Hospital still not having an MRI.
George III caused the American Revolution through taxation without representation in which he took, but did not give back. This use of Fairview donations perhaps being commingled therefore sounds familiar.
When questioned about why the donations would be directed toward Pittsfield, it sounded like it was being done for efficiency. Really? As for the MRI, the question was dodged in a previous article by saying that the system is providing excellent health care for the community. That may be the case, but it did not give a reason why an MRI is not at Fairview Hospital.
Why would people in South County continue to make contributions to a hospital system that has no interest in supporting our local hospital if the funds can be diverted toward other communities? Unfortunately, the move by BHS makes us feel like useful tools and serves no purpose other than to financially hurt Fairview Hospital if our donations are reduced as a means of protest.
