Tales of a Boat Woman
January 25 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
$15Join Amber Chand, a gifted storyteller and writer, as she takes you on an evocative journey into the stories of her ancestors in India. Stories that are excerpted from her forthcoming book, Tales of the Boatwoman, a literary weaving of ancestral stories, creative personal memoirs, and wisdom teachings for our times.
Meet Dharam Wati, Krishan Gopal, Ganga Devi, and Jaswant Kumari – as they take you into a
world of love marriages, ocean voyages, betrayals, and family (mis)fortunes. Accompanying this rich narrative will be the sounds of flute, hand pans, and Indian frame drum as Senta Rafaela brings her sound healing magic to audiences.
As a refugee herself, expelled from her birth country, Uganda by tyrannical dictator, Idi Amin in 1972, Amber feels deeply for the exile in our world.
Deeply moved by the Love Without Borders Exhibit showcasing the artwork of the refugee boat people living in a camp in Greece, currently on display at Center for Culture Through Peace, she offers this event as a benefit with entire ticket sales being donated to the refugee camps.
