Crandell LIVE! Presents 20 Feet from Stardom + Q&A with Radio Woodstock’s Doug Grunther
September 15 @ 4:00 pm - 5:31 pm
$112013 | PG-13 | 91 min | Documentary, Biography, History
In cooperation with Equine Advocates*
Documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville shines a long-overdue spotlight on the hit-making contributions of backup singers, like Darlene Love and Merry Clayton, who harmonize and transform the songs of Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, and more. Through concert footage and interviews with rock and R&B legends, the history of these predominantly Black singers is explored throughout the rock era. The real stand outs are those longtime singers who make a living at it, especially those who initially struggled in the spotlight.
”Their voices are powerful enough to tear you apart and put you back together again, and their stories will do the same. Irresistible.” — Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
“A film that may be the happiest time you’ll have at the movies all year.” — Ty Burr, The Boston Globe
