"Reflections On My Wanderings"
510 Warren Street Gallery
510 Warren St., Hudson, New York
Hudson, NY - 510 Warren Street Gallery is pleased to present the photographic work of John Lipkowitz in a show titled “Reflections On My Wanderings” beginning July 31st and continuing until August 30th. Due to the pandemic, there will not be an opening reception but the public is welcome into the gallery on Fridays and Saturdays from 12-6 and Sundays from 12-5 wearing proper face coverings.
The Covid 19 pandemic has been particularly hard on wildlife photographer John Lipkowitz. His artistry has grown, over the past two decades, with his ability to spot and anticipate, essential tools of success in nature photography. Travel restrictions have prevented his orientation to places where he is most at home with his cameras and where the landscape provides exciting opportunities to photograph the animal and bird kingdoms around the world. Luckily, even when traveling with his wife, artist Nina Lipkowitz, in more controlled situations such as tours oriented on cultural experiences, John has taken the opportunity to point his camera at the people, places and objects on all seven continents.
Nearly twenty years ago, when still living on Manhattan’s upper West Side, John wrote an article for Nature Photographer Magazine entitled “What an Urban Wildlife Photographer to Do?” His answer to this rhetorical question was to haunt the “Rowboat Lake” in Central Park, a half mile from his home on early morning sojourns to scout for the many species of wading birds and ducks and the Mute Swans which then lived there. Repetition was the key to discovering their favorite haunts and patience the tool to become familiar with their behaviors. He soon learned how to spot the Great Blue, Little Green and Black Crowned Night Herons, the Great Egrets and occasionally in summer even a Snowy Egret or two.
Early in 2004, John made the switch to digital photography and began the education leading to the mastery of editing, processing, printing and framing of his photographic output. This current show of his work, “Reflections On My Wanderings” exhibits all of the many steps in his artistic endeavors. In many ways, it feels like a retrospective. It is an opportunity to share his love of photography and a way of sharing the experiences of his wanderings.
Also on exhibit at 510 Warren Street Gallery is works by Charles Benton, Linda Hertz, Trevor Hunter, Kate Knapp, Nina Lipkowitz, Paul Nueckel, Anna Oliver, Marilyn Orner, Peggy Reeves, Kenneth Sahr, Doris Simon and H. David Stein.
