On Renoir:
Lisa Yuskavage and Alison de Lima Greene in Conversation

Clark Art Institute

225 South St, Williamstown, Massachusetts

In conjunction with Renoir: The Body, The Senses, contemporary artist Lisa Yuskavage and curator Alison de Lima Greene discuss the impact of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s paintings on the history of art and why Renoir matters today.

For more than thirty years, Lisa Yuskavage’s highly original approach to figurative painting has challenged conventional understandings of the genre. She received her BFA from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, and her MFA from the Yale University School of Art. Since 2005, the artist’s work has been represented by David Zwirner. In 2015, The Rose Art Museum of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, presented the major solo exhibition Lisa Yuskavage: The Brood. Yuskavage’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at institutions worldwide, including the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia (2000); Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva (2001); Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City (2006); and The Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin (organized as part of Dublin Contemporary 2011).

Alison de Lima Greene is the Isabel Brown Wilson Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, where she has been on the curatorial staff since 1984. Among the exhibitions she has organized are James Turrell: The Light Inside (2013), Mark Rothko: A Retrospective (2015), and Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest and Worry Will Vanish (2017). A 2010 Fellow at the Center for Curatorial Leadership, New York, Greene also serves as a trustee of the Association of Art Museum Curators, the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College, and the Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston.
