3rd GEN – A Survivor’s Story

3rd Gen – A Survivor’s Story is a dance memoir featuring personal survival stories of strength, fear, and heroism in the shadow of the Holocaust. The work celebrates resilience and the rebuilding of hope, combining contemporary dance, live original music, and video testimonies from Yad Vashem.
The 3rd Gen Project is an extensive program dedicated to commemorating Holocaust survival stories through staged art. Each performance is based on actual events and firsthand accounts from survivors, incorporating personal interviews and archival recordings that put voice and face behind each story. The project, created by choreographer Shany Dagan, began with her own family history which will be presented on February 26th in the Perles Family Studio at Jacob’s Pillow. Since then, the Project has expanded to include other 2ND & 3RD GEN family stories.
Following a successful off-Broadway premiere in 2024 at the KnJ Theater, and a special performance on International Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2025 marking 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz, 3rd Gen has since been presented across the New York region and throughout the United States.
