15TH CONCERTS IN THE VILLAGE SEASON CONTINUES DECEMBER 7TH WITH GILI MELAMED-LEV AND MANON HUTTON-DEWYS IN MUSIC FOR PIANO FOUR-HANDS
December 7 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
$25Concerts in the Village continues its 15th Anniversary Season on Saturday, December 7th at 3:00pm in Van Buren Hall, Kinderhook. Regionally based, but internationally active pianists Gili Melamed-Lev and Manon Hutton-DeWys collaborate to explore the rich and diverse repertoire for piano four-hands. Included will be works by Bach, Brahms, Pärt, Poulenc and Schubert.
Highlights of this program include Schubert’s multi-movement Fantasie in F minor, a work symphonic in breadth, yet intimate in listener appeal, and Brahms’ Hungarian Dances from Book 1, which magically combine elegant melodic inspiration with rhythmic force. Complementing these well-known works are two relatively brief 20th c. masterpieces: the sophisticated and compressed Sonata by French composer Francis Poulenc, and meditative Pari Intervallo by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.
Pianist Gili Melamed-Lev is well-known to area audiences. Her long list of accomplishments includes the founding of two popular music series: The Concerts at Camphill Ghent and, with Joe Gold, Jazz and Classics for Change. Having performed throughout the United States, and in Europe, Israel and Canada, she has collaborated with many distinguished musicians. A graduate of The Juilliard School, her teaching responsibilities have included appointments at Williams College and Bard.
Manon Hutton-DeWys’ career has taken her to Weill and Zankel Halls of Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Fisher Center at Bard, the Salle Cortot in Paris, and elsewhere both domestically and internationally. A native of the Hudson Valley, she is currently on the faculty at Bard College at Simon’s Rock. Critically acclaimed as both a solo performer and collaborator, Dr. Hutton-DeWys holds degrees from City University of New York, Mannes and Bard.
CITV’s Artistic Director David Smith comments, “I am delighted that we finally welcome these exceptional artists and in doing so celebrate the important repertoire of music for four-hands. This will be music-making that adds a special dimension to each listener’s usual expectation of the piano’s sonic potential. Be prepared for a new journey into the keyboard literature of the 19th and 20th centuries!”
