Eva Wainrib, 90, founder of Red Barn Realty

Her heart was always in the Berkshires where she and her husbandSimon settled permanently in the 1980’s. At the age of 65, Eva started her own real estate business in Egremont, named Red Barn Realty for the barn she lovingly converted from stables to work place.

Eva Wainrib, a resident of Great Barrington and Egremont for more than 40 years, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014. Eva was born in Berlin, Germany in 1924 and came to the United States by way of Havana, Cuba in 1936. She settled in Kew Gardens, New York, with her parents and sister and earned a business degree from the City College of New York.

She married Simon Wainrib in 1949 and they had two children and lived in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York. The family then moved to Hewlett, Long Island in 1958, where she and Simon raised their family. Eva worked as a bookkeeper and then as a controller.

Eva loved her family and large circle of friends and took great pride in her work, but her heart was always in the Berkshires where she and Simon settled permanently in the 1980’s. At the age of 65, Eva started her own real estate business in Egremont, named Red Barn Realty for the barn she lovingly converted from stables to work place. Eva also served in various roles with the Berkshire Bach Society. Eva brought her great social grace, intellect and sharp wit, enjoyment of people and solid footing to all that she did. Her family and friends, who benefited from her strength and her love, will miss her dearly.

Eva is survived by her son, Ronald Wainrib of Franklin, her daughter Diana Wainrib and her husband Al Hamilton of Southborough, her granddaughter, Julie Wainrib Connelly and her husband Sean, her granddaughter Andrea Hamilton and her husband John Gibson, her grandsons Douglas Hamilton and Joshua Wainrib, and granddaughter Sgt. Leslie Hamilton and her husband Sgt. Jack Mahoney, as well as three great-grandchildren, Avery, Boden and April.

Eva was remembered at a service at Congregation Ahavath Sholom, 15 North Street, Great Barrington on Wednesday, November 19 with Rabbi Barbara Cohen spiritual leader officiating. Burial immediately followed at Ahavath Sholom Cemetery in Great Barrington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berkshire Bach Society, PO Box 1002, Great Barrington, MA 01230, or online at https://www.berkshirebach.org.
