Great Barrington — Eugene Wilson Sr., 88, of Benton Avenue died December 14, 2023 at his home.
A native and lifelong resident he was born November 22, 1935 in Great Barrington, the son of the late Otis and Maddie (Pope) Wilson. He attended local schools.

Mr. Wilson was a staple at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington where he worked as their head chef for 47 years. He also previously worked for Country Carpets, Simon’s Rock as well as helping his son with parties.
He was a friendly person with an infectious smile. A friend to anyone who knew him with a good sense of humor, funny sayings, and unforgettable facial expressions. He loved to dance and sing. He also enjoyed bowling, golf and walking. He was an umpire for the local softball league for nearly 30 years.
Eugene was a family man. He was a proud homeowner who loved working around his home and his yard. He was an active member of the Afro American Community.
He is survived by his children, Mark, Stephanie, Matthew, Tanya and Eugene Wilson, Jr. as well as his siblings Lois Jones, Hazel Scott, Eleanor Haywood, Mattie Wilson, Evelyn West, and Peter Wilson. He also leaves his fiancé Marlene Pino and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
SERVICES — The family invites people to join them for a graveside service on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, 90 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 18th from 4-6 p.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
