Eugene Kirchner, 84, of Pittsfield

Eugene worked for many years as a carpenter and contractor for Gilligan Brothers in Sheffield.

Eugene B. Kirchner, 84, of Pittsfield died Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Pittsfield, the son of Bernard and Myrtle (Plouffe) Kirchner. Eugene was a graduate of the former Searles High School class of 1952. After high school, Eugene proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Eugene worked for many years as a carpenter and contractor for Gilligan Brothers in Sheffield. Eugene’s wife, Lela (Bennett) Kirchner, predeceased him in March 2017.

Eugene is survived by one son, Eugene K. Kirchner of Pittsfield; four daughters, Deborah Ann Kirchner of Pittsfield, Theresa Kirchner of Pittsfield, Elizabeth Kirchner of Pittsfield and Tammy Adams of Tennesee; two sisters, Rose Alfanu of Winsted, Connecticut, and Laurette Herting of Coxsakie, New York; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Eugene was predeceased by three brothers, Richard “Bear” Kirchner, Jerome Kirchner and David Kirchner; and one sister, Winnifred Alexander.

A private graveside service for Eugene B. Kirchner will be held at a later date. BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOMEin Great Barrington is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.
