Lee — Lee Elementary held its first-ever Danny Dollar Entrepreneurial Fair on Wednesday, June 5. The fair was sponsored by the Smile Like Jack Foundation.

The foundation is in memory of Otis native Jack O’Brien, who tragically passed away at age 20. Jack was a young entrepreneur prior to his death.
Fifth graders were inspired to create their own businesses after reading Ty Allan Jackson’s book “Make Your Own Money, How Kids Can Earn It, Save It, Spend It, and Dream Big.”
Students met with Jackson via Zoom to kick off the project, during which Jackson encouraged the students to dream big when thinking about their businesses. He encouraged students to think about what they can do now to help their future selves. The students were tasked with thinking of a business, making a budget, calculating expenses and profits, and advertising the final product by creating presentation boards, slideshows, business cards, and flyers.
The project was started during National Financial Literacy Month as a way to help the students understand the importance of financial literacy and money management.
The project was made possible with donations from the Smile Like Jack Foundation, Lee Bank, Adams Community Bank, and the LES PTO.
