Lifelong Stockbridge resident Emily J. Peyron has died at the age of 90. She was born November 13, 1933, to Clement and Marie Peyron.
Emily graduated from Williams High School and the Berkshire Business College before joining Wheeler & Taylor Insurance of Great Barrington. In 1960, Emily began assisting her father in his capacity as gardener and caretaker on a large private estate in Stockbridge, a position Emily held for over 60 years until her retirement in 2020. Her talents in the garden were greatly admired, often taking first prize in competitions, including at the Berkshire Botanical Society and the Stockbridge Grange.
Emily enjoyed music and was an avid reader of mystery novels by authors such as Agatha Christie, Dashiell Hammett, and Mary Higgins Clark. Many was the night her light would be on waiting to see if the butler did it.
Emily is survived by her sisters, Ann and Jeannine, and by her brother John, all of Stockbridge, as well as by her sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Emily is predeceased by her sister Louise and her brother Louis.
At Emily’s request, services will be private. Owing to her love of animals, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the MSPCA directly or in care of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. To send remembrances to her family, please visit the funeral home’s website.
Known to her family as Lily, she will be greatly missed.
